In the face of Western belligerents in Ukraine, Africa, The Asia Pacific region Russian lead CIS, China-and Russia-led SCO bloc to keep holding counter-terror drills — senior diplomat

These efforts help effectively ward off terrorist threats in the areas of the CIS and SCO responsibility, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said

/TASS/. The CIS Counter-Terror Center and the Regional Counter-Terror Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) continue holding multilateral drills to practice fighting terrorism, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told TASS on Thursday.

“As for the post-Soviet space, the CIS Counter-Terror Center and the Regional Counter-Terror Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization remain fairly needed multilateral mechanisms of inter-state counter-terror interaction, in addition to the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization] format. They exercise coordinating functions, analyze incoming information on the state, dynamics and trends of the spread of terrorism and extremism and hold multilateral counter-terror drills under their aegis,” the senior Russian diplomat said.

These efforts help effectively ward off terrorist threats in the areas of the CIS and SCO responsibility, Syromolotov said.

In February 2022, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas, Head of the CIS Counter-Terror Center Yevgeny Sysoyev and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Counter-Terror Structure Ruslan Mirzayev signed a joint stance on the war on terrorism and extremism.

In particular, the sides favor creating a broad counter-terror coalition under the UN aegis and taking effective collective measures to prevent and foil the spread and propaganda of terrorist and related radical ideology, religious extremism and recruitment into the ranks of terrorist and extremist organizations through the Internet.
