Maine CDC issues warning on eating freshwater fish from several state bodies of water

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued an advisory to not eat freshwater fish from seven bodies of water in the state.

All of these bodies of freshwater come with different levels of urgency — but officials said no one should eat any species of fish caught in the two in Fairfield locations: Police Athletic League Ponds and Fish Brook, including any tributaries, from the headwaters to the confluence with Messalonskee Stream.© Maine CDCMaine CDC Issues Advisory on Eating Freshwater Fish from Seven WaterbodiesSign up for our Newsletters

The advisory comes after testing fish in the waterways found levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances above Maine CDC’s recently updated recommended levels for regular consumption.

PFAS are also known as forever chemicals because they don’t break down in nature. Exposure can be associated with changes in live and kidney function, as well as changes in cholesterol levels and complications during pregnancy, the Maine CDC said…….more here
