A senior member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council says the United States spearheads the devastating Saudi-led military aggression and brutal siege against his country, stating that Washington is complicit in the crimes that the Riyadh regime is committing against the Yemeni nation.

“America spearheads the Saudi-led aggression against our homeland. It enormously contributes to the military onslaught and blockade on our country. It is the party responsible for terrible problems, massacre of ordinary people and large-scale destruction in Yemen,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi said at a ceremony in the capital Sana’a on Monday afternoon.

“The United States is the enemy of the Yemeni people and will always remain our foe. There would be no aggression against our country if the onslaught did not serve US interests. It was Washington which withdrew its ambassador at the outset of Yemen conflict and called on other countries to pull their diplomats out of Sana’a,” Houthi highlighted.

Middle East Expert, Kevin Barrett says American policies are dictated by corporations and interest groups that profit from the ongoing Saudi war on Yemen.

The Yemeni Supreme Political Council member went on to say that the US, which falsely claims to be an advocate of freedom and democracy, has deliberately seized the websites of Yemen’s al-Masirah television network and regional pro-resistance media outlets.

“We have had several rounds of negotiations with them and discovered they are not serious about their [so-called] initiatives. Their pledges were just empty words,” Houthi said.

He said the US has been killing Yemeni people and destroying vital infrastructure for the past seven years, stressing that the Riyadh regime and its regional allies would not have been able to do anything without Washington’s support.

The newly-approved US weapons sale to Saudi Arabia is a “troubling” indication of Riyadh’s intention to continue its aggression against Yemen, says an American scholar.

“Almost all bullets, mortar shells, missiles and bombs used against Yemeni people are US-built. The United States is both our enemy and that of Palestinians,” Houthi pointed out.

“The United States is leading the siege on Yemen, is behind the unprecedented decline of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies, and is stonewalling initiatives aimed at peace in Yemen,” he said, stressing that invaders of Yemen will be eventually hurled into the dustbin of history.

Houthi stated that the sea, land and air blockade on Yemen affects ordinary Yemenis.

“Why do you prevent ships [carrying energy derivatives and food stuff for Yemenis] from entering the port of Hudaydah, have kept Sana’a International Airport closed [to the UN and humanitarian flights] and do not allow cash transfers?” he argued.

Earlier on Monday, Yemenis took to the streets in major cities across the country to denounce the US complicity in the protracted Saudi war on the Arab country.

Thousands of people staged a mass rally in the northwestern city of Sa’ada, carrying national Yemeni flags and chanting vociferous anti-American and anti-Saudi slogans.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and other key Western powers, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing Hadi’s government back to power and crushing the popular Ansarullah resistance movement.

Having failed to reach its professed goals, the war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.

Despite heavily-armed Saudi Arabia’s continuous bombardment of the impoverished country, Yemeni armed forces and the Popular Committees have grown steadily in strength against the Saudi invaders and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.
