Florida trappers have captured a record-setting Burmese python that’s 18 feet 4 inches long and weighs a whopping 98 pounds 10 ounces at Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee. Cynthia Downer and Jonathan Lopez caught the massive beast on September 22 with the Python Action Team, a group of trappers removing the invasive snakes from the Everglades. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission it’s the largest python captured at the preserve, located west of Miami. The agency says it is the second-largest python ever caught in the wild in Florida, just four inches shorter than the record holder.
