Former Survivor producer convicted of killing his wife is freed

The former producer of castaway reality TV show, Survivor, has been released from prison in Mexico after serving seven years for murdering his wife. Bruce Beresford-Redman (left) was convicted in 2012 of strangling his wife, Monica Burgos (right), and dumping her body in a sewer on the grounds of the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun (inset).

He had reported her missing from their hotel, but investigators working on the case said Burgos died after a ‘violent confrontation’. Beresford-Redman returned to the Southern California after his wife’s body was found, but was extradited from the US in 2012.

Despite maintaining his innocence, he was found guilty at trial where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was released early, on June 20, with credit for ‘good behavior’ and after paying $2,000 restitution. Under Mexican law, prisoners are eligible for release after serving 60 percent of a sentence.

Beresford-Redman, who is back living in Southern California with his mother and two children, told reporters at his home on Monday that he had ‘no comment’ on his release.
