Pregnant woman, 21, who vanished on her way to show sonogram to baby’s father is found dead just days before her due date

  • The body of 21-year-old Makayla Winston was found dumped in Lexington, Mississippi on Monday
  • Her boyfriend, Terrence K. Sample, 33, was taken into custody on Monday but has not been charged

A pregnant woman who vanished on her way to show a sonogram to the baby’s father has been found dead just days before she was due to give birth.

The body of 21-year-old Makayla Winston was found dumped in Lexington, Mississippi on Monday.

Her boyfriend, Terrence K. Sample, 33, was taken into custody on Monday but has not been charged.

Winston, who was due to give birth on July 4, was last seen alive on Thursday when she drove to show her boyfriend the sonogram, according to her family.

Her four-door Pontiac Grand Prix was found by sheriff’s deputies at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 14 and Interstate 55 in Holmes County on Friday.

Winston’s keys were still in the ignition and and cellphone was found dumped in the grass nearby.

Authorities say text messages had been erased from the phone and they are working to retrieve them.

The pregnant woman’s body was found about six miles away from her abandoned car.

Police said they believed a white SUV was parked behind her car at some point but they don’t know who was driving it.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has interviewed multiple people over her death.

They have not revealed if they have any suspects.

Sample was booked into the Holmes-Humphreys County Regional Correctional Facility but had not been charged as of Tuesday.

Authorities said they have a 72 hour holding period and were investigating a cause of death.

Winston’s aunt, Annie Kimbrough, told WAPT: ‘She loved this baby she was carrying.

‘She loved a man, this baby’s daddy. She was a happy young woman.’
