Lots of pressure has been released within the last 24 hours around the world. This series of strong quakes has all started with a M6.1 tremor near Tanaga Volcano, Alaska (2019-01-05 18:47:10 (UTC)) and was followed 1 hour later by a M6.8 earthquake in remote Brazil (2019-01-05 19:25:38 (UTC)). About two hours ago (2019-01-06 17:27:20 (UTC)), a powerful M6.6 hit Indonesia.

M6.1 earthquake Alaska – January 5, 2019

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit around 80 miles southwest of Adak just before 10:00 a.m. The Alaska Earthquake Center says the earthquake struck in the same area as a magnitude 6.5 earthquake Aug. 15 and a 6.3 magnitude earthquake Aug. 23.

The M6.1 south of Tanaga Island this morning occurred in the same area as a pair of M6+ quakes back in August, a M6.5 on Aug 15 and a M6.3 on Aug 23. We have no reports that it was felt. http://earthquake.alaska.edu/event/0198komzw

The earthquake was recorded as having hit at a depth of 9.6 miles. According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the shaker was not felt by anyone.

The National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer recorded the same earthquake and quickly announced that a tsunami was not expected.

M6.8 earthquake Brazil – January 5, 2019

A powerful earthquake has shaken northwestern Brazil near its border with Peru, affecting a remote part of the Amazon rainforest. There were no immediate reports of damages.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.8 quake had an epicenter 55 miles (89 kilometers) west of Tarauaca, Brazil, and 204 miles (329 kms) east of Pucallpa, Peru. It hit at 2:25 p.m. local time and had a depth of 575 kilometers.

The Seismological Observatory of the University of Brasilia said on its website that it was a “deep, no risk earthquake” in the jungle state of Acre. A powerful 7.1-magnitude quake hit the Peru-Brazil border in August.

M6.8 earthquake hits off Indonesia

A M6.6 earthquake hit 151km WNW of Tobelo, Indonesia, 2019-01-06 17:27:20 (UTC) at a depth of 60km (37 miles).

Such a deep earthquake will most probably not trigger any tsunami waves.
