Human corpse-eating robots now in developmental stages

Imagine a world in which flesh-eating autonomous robots will rove the land in search of dead human bodies and other organic matter to refuel themselves — soon such craziness will be a reality, developers say

(INTELLIHUB) — Robots that can consume human corpses and other organic matter to give them much needed energy to operate are now in the developmental stages and may even be used on the battlefield sometime in the future.

According to a report out of Wired, the U.S. Department of Defense and DARPA are looking into developing man-eating machines that far surpass sci-fi creations such as the Terminator in some respects.

Apparently, the robots are designed to collect organic matter which could include human bodies, plants, and other animals as a way to recharge themselves and to make matters worse the robots will likely be designed to be fully autonomous, giving them the ability to think and act on their own.

The super secret project has been dubbed Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot or EATR for short.

As Huffington Post reports:

Cyclone Engine, who manufactures the EATR power source, issues a press release that insisted the device would be herbivorous: “EATR runs of fuel no scarier than twigs, grass clippings and wood chips … desecration of the dead is a war crime under Article 15 of the Geneva Conventions, and is certainly not something sanctioned by DARPA, Cyclone, or Robot Technology.”

But at some point, don’t all robots eventually turn on their masters and start devouring human flesh? Guess we’ll find out!

Just some food for thought — no pun intended.
