Russia & Turkey discuss joint anti-ISIS strategy in Syria, sign agreement

Representatives of the Russian military have met with their Turkish counterparts and discussed joint steps in the fight against Islamic State (IS, former ISIS/ISIL) in Syria.

The two sides have also signed a memorandum regulating flight safety issues for Ankara’s and Moscow’s military planes over Syria.

“The document defines mechanisms for coordination and interaction between Russian Aerospace Force and Turkish Air Force strikes while hitting terrorist targets,” a statement by the Russian military said.

The agreement will also regulate actions “to prevent incidents between the planes and unmanned aircraft in the airspace of Syria.”
