On Wednesday, November 16th, 2 large landing ships of the Russian Navy passed through the Bosphorus after a third entered the Mediterranean Sea on Monday and a fourth passed through the strait on November 10th.

A fifth is heading to Syria via Gibraltar.

The Georgy the Victor landing ship of the Northern Fleet is carrying military cargo to the Syrian port of Tartus, where a Russian military naval base is situated. On Wednesday, the Caesar Kunikov large landing ship met the former in the Black Sea while returning from the Syrian Arab Republic’s territorial waters. Relevant photos and videos were taken by witnesses in Istanbul during the Russian ship’s passing through the Bosphorus. Marines are visible on the decks of the military vessels.

According to British media, at the same time the large landing ship of the Baltic Fleet, Korolev, entered the Mediterranean via Gibraltar.

It is now known that these landing ships have been delivering military equipment to the Syrian port of Tartus for the past several years. At Tartus is located a permanent logistics support base of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea which has recently expanded to practically be a fully-fledged naval base. This is Georgy the Victor’s 9th trip to Syria in 2016.

On Monday, the large landing ship of the Baltic Fleet, Alexander Shabalin, passed through the Bosphorus and also headed to the Syrian Arab Republic with military supplies.

Back on November 10th, the Nikolay Filchenkov of the Black Sea Fleet entered the Mediterranean via the Black Sea straits.
