/TASS/. Myopic and selfish policies by certain states have turned the Middle East into a threat for global stability, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in his article for Palestinian media published Friday in the run-up to his visit to the country.

“Lack of foresight by some rulers, who failed to put their countries and societies on the track of modern development, combined with irresponsibility of others, who thought that they have the right to interfere from outside into domestic matters of others in order to achieve their own goals, have turned a region with a potential for prosperity into a zone of conflict,” he said.

“Terrorism and religious conflicts are a threat to all states not only in this part of the world, but almost everywhere, but this is where we need to start unraveling this tangle of contradictions that brings about instability,” the prime minister added.

“Russia’s stance has always been firm: the solution (to the Israeli-Palestinian issue) remains an indispensable prerequisite for reaching an all-encompassing and fair settlement in the Middle East in general,” Medvedev said. “It is extremely important to resume the Israeli-Palestinian dialog as soon as possible in order to finally solve the question of co-existence of the two equal states.”.
