According to the department, there have been cases in all 15 counties but that Maricopa County accounts for just over half the statewide total.

Health officials say it’s not too late to get a flu shot because Arizona’s flu season lasts as late as May.

Flu activity most often peaks in February and can last into May. It is not too late to get your flu vaccine this season. Flu vaccines this season have been updated to better match circulating viruses and most circulating viruses so far are still like the recommended vaccine viruses for this season.

Deadly H7N9 bird flu can, in certain situations, be transmitted person-to-person in hospitals, according to a new report from China.

Since bird flu first appeared in eastern China in 2013, nearly 700 people have been infected, the study authors said. Almost 300 people have died as of Jan. 10, 2016. Most of the infections and deaths have occurred in China, the authors said.
