Russia has shown that it is taking control of the situation in Syria, says Hoenig.
The United States deployment of additional jet fighters to a Turkish airbase only ups the risk of a “real accident” between America and Russia, says a US political analyst and activist.

“President [Barack] Obama is playing a very serious and dangerous game, if he is going to be increasing its military presence in Turkey,” said Myles Hoenig.

In a phone interview with Press TV, Hoenig pointed to the US deployment of F-15C fighter jets to Turkey’s Incirlik air base, less than two months after Russia deployed its own SU-30 jet fighters to Syria’s western province of Latakia.

US Air Force deployed six F-15C Eagle jets to Incirlik on Friday. The warplanes were moved close to Syria “in a demonstration of the United States unwavering support for Turkish sovereignty and the collective security of the region,” according to the US.

“Ostensibly to protect Turkish airspace from Russia, the possibility of an accident is real,” Hoenig noted.

“It’s good that the two militaries are testing communications between the two air forces, but there’s never any guarantee that either side might be trigger happy or misunderstand a situation,” he added.

“America’s sense of ‘exceptionalism’ dictates that no other foreign power should be in command of a situation that directly involves the US.”

“Russia has shown that it is taking control of the situation in Syria and that alone fuels America’s belligerence in the region,” added the analyst.

Military analysts speculate that the US military will use its F-15Cs against the Russian combat planes conducting airstrikes in Syria.

Russia launched its air campaign against Daesh Takfiri terrorists on September 30. The airstrikes came shortly after Moscow asked Washington to halt its military attacks in Syria because Russian fighter jets were flying over the territory.

The US has also been carrying out attacks in Syria, allegedly pounding Daesh positions in the country.
