Isn’t it ironic that things just keep happening to Baltimore after the city galvanized the protest that ferguson had initiated? Just by coincidence things just keep happening that seems to punish the area where the uprising occurred!

(BALTIMORE) Baltimore City is cleaning up a third sewage overflow after heavy rains flooded the system over the weekend.

The city Department of Public Works reported that 68,000 gallons of sewage flowed onto the 2200 block of Falls Road after Saturday’s heavy rain. That overflow was stopped overnight.

Another 51,000 gallons of sewage overflowed Sunday night from a sanitary line on East Chase Street, where Pearlie Smith lives.

“It’s horrible. I mean, sewage? Phew!! It’s the best way to describe it,” Smith said.

Smith said this isn’t the first time that a hard rain caused such a mess.

“Sometimes it gets so bad the second step is covered up. One time, this window was covered up with water,” Smith said.

Public works officials confirmed that 150,000 gallons of wastewater entered the Patapsco River in the outer harbor Saturday afternoon because of the amount of stormwater entering the sewer lines.

“Through cracks, through leaks that have formed over time, water just gets in there,” DPW spokesman Jeffrey Raymond said.

All the leaks stopped by Saturday night. The city has not issued any health or environmental health warnings specific to the leaks. Officials said the drinking water is fine.

As for fixing the Civil War-era underground infrastructure, city officials said $100 million worth of sewer rehabilitation projects are underway.
