The scorching summer heat has finally hit Phoenix with temperatures expected to hit 115 degrees later this week.

One thermometer in downtown Phoenix hit 120 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
The intense heat killed 120 persons annually on average in Arizona between 2001 and 2013, according to Will Humble, director of the Division of Health Policy and Program Evaluation at the University of Arizona.

Humble, the former director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, said another 1,400 Arizonans visit emergency rooms annually because of heat-related ailments and another 12,700 are treated for dehydration.

“The Arizona heat is a lot more than a nuisance – it’s dangerous and lethal,” said Humble, noting the summer heat is the leading weather-related cause of death in Arizona and nationally.

Construction sites try to get most of their intensive and outside work done in the morning and often shut down in the afternoon to avoid peak temperatures.
Outside workers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport don’t have the same luxury.

But airlines try to keep employees exposed to heat hydrated and try to educate them about the exposure, dehydration and heat exhaustion…..More Here
