There is “big power politics” between the United States and China over the man-made islands in the South China Sea, says an American political analyst.
Michael Burns said tensions between the two countries are driving President Barack Obama’s spin around to the Asia-Pacific region.
The building of artificial islands “projects to be a growing problem between China and the US and it’s really the driver of President Obama’s pivot to the Pacific,” he said.
Burns made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Sunday when asked to give his take on the growing tensions between the two super powers.
Washington accuses Beijing of rapidly building up to 800 hectares (2,000 acres) of artificial islands in the South China Sea also claimed in part by Taiwan, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.
