Venezuelan Social Housing Project Delivers 700,000th Home
The public housing program began in 2010 under late President Hugo Chavez. President Nicolas Maduro inaugurated the 700,000th house built under a state-led initiative to provide housing to the most needy Venezuelans on Sunday. During the celebration of the launch, part of the Great Mission for Venezuelan Housing program, President Maduro announced that the program aims at building hundreds of thousands of new houses this year and next.
“We are aiming at a million houses for the Venezuelan people. A thousand thanks to the workers that made this construction possible,” he said. Maduro had previously said the government will surpass the 1 million new homes landmark by 2016.
The state housing program began in 2010 during President Hugo Chavez’s period in office and aimed at addressing a longstanding social need and stimulating the economy in the aftermath of the global economic slowdown.
Sunday’s inauguration took place in the state of Vargas, in a housing complex built in partnership with the Turkish government.
