Russia’s messages are being heard in Brussels and in D.C.

Greetings,

(Note: I figured that sooner rather than later American/NATO’s leadership would get the hint of what Russia has been saying to them militarily. Outside of the public’s view, Russia has been economically, politically, geopolitically, and militarily been telling America/NATO that if you continue on in this belligerent path that you have chosen, it will be met with brute force.)

NATO says Russia aircraft ‘messaging’ Western alliance

US Air Force General Philip Breedlove, NATO’s supreme allied commander, holds a media briefing at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, on November 3, 2014.

NATO says a recent increase in flights by Russian aircraft over Europe has worked to send the Western military alliance a message.

“My opinion is they’re messaging us. They’re messaging us that they are a great power,” General Philip Breedlove, NATO’s supreme allied commander, said on Monday.

Last week, the US-led alliance said Russian fighter jets, long-range bombers, and tanker aircraft had carried out a series of flights over the Baltics, North Sea, and Atlantic Ocean.

The US general said, “And what you saw this past week was a larger, more complex formation of aircraft, carrying out a little deeper — I would say a little bit more provocative flight path.”

According to a press release issued by the NATO headquarters in Belgium, there were a total of four flights by Russian warplanes over European waters on October 28 and the day after. The flights were carried out over international waters and never crossed the airspace of any country.

However, the United States has claimed that the flights on October 29 constituted “political saber-rattling” and even “Russian aggression.”

Under Article Five of the NATO charter, “Russian aggression” would provide a legal pretext for a US military strike against the nuclear-armed power.

Tensions between Russia and the West heightened after the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, formerly part of Ukraine’s territory, joined the Russian Federation following a referendum in March.

Relations were strained further after Ukraine launched military operations in mid-April to silence pro-Russia protests in the country’s mainly Russian-speaking regions in the east.

The United States and the European Union have accused Russia of destabilizing Ukraine and have slapped a number of sanctions against Russian and pro-Russia figures. Moscow, however, rejects the accusation.
