America has money for war, bases, foreign aid, & weapons development, while a new report says nearly 25 percent of American children live in poverty

Greetings,

nnj(Note: Isn’t it amazing how America can continue to pour money(that she doesn’t have) in wars, weapons development, war games, military bases around the globe, funding opposition forces in other nations, propaganda, bio-warfare & experiments, troop deployments, and military and financial aid and assistance to nations like Israel, but at home she has no money in the budget for her own?

nnj2Is this not a sign of misplaced priorities? This signifies collapse. No nation can progress under such policies!)

A new report says nearly 25 percent of American children live in poverty, the highest level in 20 years.

The report, published in the US medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, found that over 16 million children live in poverty in America.

Such high level of poverty, according to the report, has adverse health effects including “significantly higher risks of low birth weight, injuries, lower IQ, intensive care unit admissions, and infant, condition-specific, and overall mortality.”

The report listed food insecurity as the second threat to the US children, with 1 out of 3 poor children relying on food stamps for nutrition.

“Food insecurity is associated with deleterious consequences for children’s health, including elevated risks of suboptimal health and hospitalizations,” the report said.

The shocking figures show that while Washington hails the economic recovery, there has been an immense setback in the well-being and health of US children since 2009.

“It shouldn’t be this hard for kids to grow and thrive in the world’s richest, most powerful nation,” said Bruce Lesley, one of the study’s co-authors and the president of the child advocacy organization First Focus.

This report comes as the Obama administration’s 2015 budget proposal has called for slashing the budget of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Last year, massive budget cuts to anti-poverty programs had a devastating impact on families with children.

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which provides food assistance to children and mothers, was one of the programs that saw budget cuts by more than $354 million.
