Joshua Herbinger
An Alabama police officer was arrested on rape charges less than two weeks after his arrest on child sex abuse charges.
Joshua Herbinger, a crime scene technician with the Birmingham Police Department, was charged Monday with first-degree rape in a case involving an adult woman, reported AL.com.
The nine-year veteran was also arrested Oct. 9 after a girl reported to a school resource officer that Herbinger had sexually abused her.
Police said the abuse took place over the past two to three years, the newspaper reported, and Herbinger was charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
He was released on $80,000 bond in that case and placed on paid administrative leave by the police department.
Herbinger, who was released on $60,000 bond after his latest arrest, will likely be placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Police said additional charges could be filed against the officer.
