Ebola Death Toll in West Africa Exceeds 3,000

(RIA Novosti) – Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa has killed at least 3,091 people, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday.
According to the WHO’s latest situation update on the Ebola epidemic, 3,091 out of 6,574 suspected and confirmed infection cases have led to death, placing the mortality rate at more than 50 percent.


Started at the end of 2013, the current Ebola epidemic spread across the West African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal. A separate outbreak, unrelated to the one in West Africa, is taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
There is no officially approved cure for the disease, however, several countries, including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan are currently developing a vaccine.
