Texas school teacher who was arrested this week on a charge of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy has told police that he is HIV-positive, according to the Dallas News.

Roger Kessler, 43, a music teacher for 14 years at RISD Academy in Richardson, faces a charge of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony.

Kessler was arrested this week when a woman, — suspecting he was a burglar — detained him until the police arrived as he attempted to flee the home of the victim.

After being taken into custody, Kessler reportedly told police that he was at the home to have sex with “a guy,” later identified as a 15-year-old teen.

According to authorities, Kessler said he met the teen through Grindr, a dating app for gay and bisexual men, where they exchanged explicit messages. Police say the school teacher showed them incoming messages on his phone from the teen that read, “my dad isn’t home.” An outgoing message from Kessler read, “is your mom home right now.”

Kessler initially claimed that believed the teen was a college student before admitting he knew his real age.

The teacher revealed to police that he is HIV-positive, and had not informed the teen of his condition. He stated that he had multiple sexual encounters with the young man, including anal and oral sex, but had used protection in all instances except one.

In an affidavit to police, the teen denied having sex with Kessler.

The teen is reportedly not a student at the school where Kessler teaches.

Kessler, who has been put on leave by the school district is currently being held in Collin County jail. His bail was set at $250,000.
