Police said Sonya Spoon, of the 6200 block of Forrest Rd., admitted to suffocating the children, Ayden and Kayla
A 24-year-old mother has been arrested and charged with killing her two children, ages 3 and 1, in a home in Cheverly early Sunday morning.
According to court documents, Sonya Katrina Spoon, 24, of 6209 Forest Road, Cheverly, faces counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault after allegedly admitting to smothering the children.
Cheverly Police Chief Buddy Robshaw said officers went to the home in the 6200 block of Forest Road shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday on a call of two children in respiratory distress.
He said both were taken to Children’s Hospital in Washington, where they were pronounced dead.
Robshaw said the children’s father was not home at the time and he indicated there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Spoon is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 3 at 8:45 a.m. in the District Court for Prince George’s County in Upper Marlboro. ABC 7 News
