Obama, US politicians ‘owned’ by Zionist lobby: Barry Grossman

An international lawyer says President Barack Obama’s statements on Israel’s deadly onslaught against Palestinians stem from “power politics” as he and other US politicians are “owned” by “the Zionist lobby.”

“We should never be so naive as to expect anything said by President Obama that touches on the subject of Israel to be based on sound logic or on facts,” said Barry Grossman in a phone interview with Press TV on Monday commenting on Obama’s remarks about Israel’s offensive on Gaza.

“There is nothing about Obama’s position or rhetoric on Gaza that is based on principle or facts as distinct from pure power politics,” Grossman added. “The simple demonstrable fact which America is at last waking up to, is that its political apparatus has been occupied by special interests for a very long time and no group is more organized, better resourced or more pernicious that the Zionist lobby.”

“The White House has been entirely beholding to the Zionist lobby since at the very least Truman’s presidency. The lobby’s hold on members of Congress is no less complete. What this means, in practice, is that no member of the US political establishment, including the president, is willing to diverge in any significant way from the position prescribed on any issue by AIPAC and its corrupt 5th column within the bureaucracy of government,” he stated.

On Sunday, Obama once again threw his full support behind the Tel Aviv regime’s atrocities against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying Israel has the “right to defend itself.”

He made the remarks as Israel’s aerial and ground invasion of Gaza killed over 100 Palestinians on Sunday alone. According to the latest reports, 14 days of Israel’s military onslaught on Gaza have left at least 549 Palestinians dead, scores of them women and children.

“This time around there is no doubt whatsoever that Israel has committed war crimes by specifically targeting hospitals and medical personnel, civilian men, women and children, as well as essential civilian infrastructure. There is overwhelming evidence of Israel using chemical weapons, gas, white phosphorous and Dense Inert Metal Explosives against a dense urban civilian population,” Grossman told Press TV.

He also said that US officials’ “unqualified support for” Israel’s atrocities is in direct opposition to what the American people want.

“The US and the international community have not only remained silent about all of this, but have expressly declared their unqualified support for these inhumane and criminal tactics. In doing so the political establishment is completely out of touch with the sentiments of their constituents,” he pointed out.

Over recent days, there have been a number of anti-Israel protests in major US cities including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington.

Protesters in the US capital gathered Sunday outside the White House and expressed their anger at the US president’s silence on Israel’s crimes against Palestinians.
