The situation in Ukraine is a result of US policy aimed at “binding the hands” of Russia and gaining control over the supply of Russian gas, President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro said Tuesday, quoted by the state TV channel Venezolana de Televison.

“God grant that Ukraine finds its way, and peace is established… Let the US and Europe get their hands off Ukraine, so that the country could achieve unity and peace,” the Venezuelan leader said in his traditional TV program “In Contact with Maduro.”
According to him, what is happening is a result of the realization of the plans of the West aimed at “encircling” Russia. “It has always been important for the West to tie Russia… there is a plan to encircle it, tie its hands and cut its wings,” he said. “Ukraine has several times faced a so-called “color revolution,” a soft coup d’état. The last time it was a few months ago, when the ousting of the legitimate president was announced with the support of Western media. He was ousted in accordance with the same model, which they wanted to apply to me,” Maduro added.

Maduro claims that one of the goals of the US policy regarding Ukraine is “control over the supply of Russian gas.” According to him, “dogs of war” have not forgiven the Russian leadership for the fact that it prevented armed intervention of the US and NATO in Syria. The Venezuelan President also stated that an attempt of the same “soft coup,” which was carried out in Ukraine, had failed in Venezuela, but against the background of “threatening policies of the North American Empire, it is important to be on guard.”
On February 22, a change of government with signs of a coup took place in Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada dismissed President Viktor Yanukovych from power, changed the constitution and appointed presidential elections for May 25. A number of regions in the southeast of the country did not recognize the legitimacy of the new authorities. In response, in the middle of April, security forces controlled by Kiev launched a military operation, which Moscow called punitive.
Venezuelan FM to arrive to Moscow for talks on May 29

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua is expected to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in May 29.
“The negotiations between Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jaua – who will be in Russia as head of the delegation to hold the tenth meeting of the high-level intergovernmental Russian-Venezuelan committee – will take place in Moscow on May 29. This is the first visit of Jaua as the Venezuelan foreign minister,” the Russian Foreign Ministry posted a statement on its website.
“During the meeting the minister will exchange opinions on main issues of the bilateral agenda with the emphasis on advancing political dialogue and cooperation on the international arena,” the document said. “Lavrov and Jaua will pay special attention to discussing regional problems and topics of enhancing the Russian-Venezuelan cooperation in multi-party organizations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
According to the statement, “following the talks the ministers will sign a plan of political consultations between the Russian and Venezuelan Foreign Ministries for 2015-2018.”
“Venezuela is one of Russia’s leading partners in Latin America and on the international arena, cooperation with it is of a strategic character,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, Interfax reports.
“Our countries support forming a more just and multi-polar world order based on the supremacy of international law with a central and coordinating role of the UN on issues concerning maintaining global peace and security. Acting this way, Russia and Venezuela show unity in their assessments of events in Ukraine, and support consistently resolving the situation in Syria and the nuclear program with solely political and diplomatic methods and using truly democratic principles in international relations, including in the human rights direction,” the statement said.
At the same time, “taking into account the significance of Venezuela for the entire Latin American region, we express solidarity with the friendly people of this state and our strong support for the course of [Venezuelan President] Nicolas Maduro’s government aimed at not allowing the destabilization of the domestic political situation and organizing nationwide dialogue in the interests of overcoming disagreements existing in Venezuelan society in the constitutional field and without destructive interference from the outside,” the document said.
Venezuela is Russia’s second trade and economic partner in Latin America after Brazil, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
