Pentagon spokesman, Rear Admiral John Kirby, described the deployment of US troops as ‘a very tangible representation’ of Washington’s commitment to its security obligations in Europe.

The US troops flying to the region this week will be in place for a month and will then be replaced by other American forces in an open-ended series of deployments.

The Pentagon is considering keeping this ‘rotational presence’ persistent throughout the rest of this year, Mr.Kirby told reporters.

Since the start of the Ukraine crisis, the US military has sent 12 F-16 fighter jets and aviation support teams to Poland.

Could you please comment on the Pentagon’s latest motion?

We can only tell that first the Americans are trying to use the Ukrainian crisis to extend their military presence in various European countries. I think that this goes not only for Poland but for Baltic states as well. And we can of course expect that they will use all this crisis, all this situation as an argument to strengthen their forces and possibly not only military forces, military forces are not so important here, their presence has rather some kind of symbolic meaning, but also intelligence agencies, which will be definitely more active in Central and Eastern European countries. This of course may lead to several protests, I mean I have already heard that in Poland some movements, which are working in support of peace, some pacifist movements will organize several protests against the American president there. This also will lead probably to several tensions between local population where the Americans and American soldiers will be based. So, I guess that as a matter of fact it eventually lead to growing distust of the Polish population to the US and its military presence in Europe.

Do you think that it is somewhat hypocritical for the US to essentially start a fire in Ukraine through the use of its security services, Russia puts out their fire or is attempting to deal with their fire and then the US military says because there is a fire, we need to move our military bases closer?

Definitely yes, I guess that is another aspect of strengthening of the US presence in European Union countries, in Eastern European countries. This might also lead to middle-term perspective to the return to the idea of the so-called anti-ballistic missile system, which as you know has been lately rejected by the administration of Obama but I guess that now the hopes and warmongers in Washington are getting stronger and perhaps that is the kind of preparation when it comes to the military intelligence, infrastructure to come back to the whole idea.

What do you think the next step will be?

The next step when it comes to the US policies, quite predictable I guess, is that the most US policy-makers are following the idea of Zbigniew Brzezinski who has stated several times that for US it is geopolitically vital to weaken the EU, to weaken Europe as a whole and to weaken Russia of course. So, I guess the Americans will continue to use the situation in Ukraine as a means of destabilizing European Union countries and Russian Federation as well. On the other hand, I also guess that the Americans will try to return to the whole idea of George W. Bush administration to divide European countries because as we all know most of the Western European countries will oppose the idea to strengthen the military American presence in the territories of neighboring Central European countries.
