Greetings,

‘US military doctrine can lead to war’

The US military doctrine is “a modern manifestation of what happened in the nineteenth century and early twentieth century among the imperial powers that ended up going to war,” says Don DeBar, an American anti-war activist and radio host.

On Wednesday, the United States vowed to support ally Japan in its dispute with China over a cluster of islands in the East China Sea.

The uninhabited islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, are located near a crucial shipping lane and give the owner exclusive oil, mineral, and fishing rights in the surrounding waters.

Beijing issued a map on Saturday of an Air Defense Identification Zone demanding that all aircraft entering the region should identify themselves and accept Chinese instructions.

The controversial Air Defense Identification Zone includes the islands which are claimed by both Japan and China.

South Korea, Japan and the US have all rejected China’s demand that all aircraft flying over the new zone should provide full flight plans.

Earlier this week, two US B-52 bombers flew through the area without informing the Chinese government.

Meanwhile, China has sent fighter jets to its newly declared air zone in the East China Sea, saying the jets flew into the area to strengthen monitoring on targets in the area. China’s air force has described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law.

China is concerned about US militarism in the Asia-Pacific. Beijing is considering the Pentagon’s focus to “pivot” increased US military presence in the Pacific as a strategy to counter China’s increasing global influence.

“You have the ‘pivot’ to China, emphasis of a new military doctrine focused towards Asia, towards the Pacific. The US already rings around China, rings around Eastern Russia, Asian Russia, rings around India for that matter, though India’s an ally in more fundamental ways,” said DeBar in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.

“There’s [also] contradictions. China owns more US paper than any other nation in the world,” he added. “And, at the same time, you have China moving with others to create a global currency that doesn’t include the dollar although they own more dollars than most other people.”
