On Tuesday, the army continued its mop-up operations on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, killing scores of militants.

The army also launched attacks on the militants in Yabroud, killing many of them.

In Homs countryside, the Syrian forces killed a number of militants who had tried to attack military checkpoints in the area of Maheen.

According to a military source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the troops destroyed a boat loaded with weapons and ammunition in al-Rastan Lake in Homs countryside.

Scores of foreign-backed militants were also killed or injured in similar operations in many areas, including Efis, Sarmin, Bennish and Kifr-shalaya, in Idlib Province.

Moreover on Monday night, the Syrian army units carried out a series of operations in Hasakah, killing seven militants and destroying two vehicles equipped with machine guns.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the violence.

Recently, the UN warned against the humanitarian situation in Syria, saying over nine million people are in need of urgent aid due to the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.

On October 7, the UN also said over four million other Syrians will be forced out of their homes in 2014 due to the escalating conflict in the country.

Two million Syrians are expected to take refuge outside the country while another 2.25 million are predicted to be internally displaced next year.
