(Video included) Syria can face any foreign aggression: Assad

Greetings,

Syria can face any foreign aggression: Assad

    —

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says his country is capable of confronting any external aggression after over two years of dealing with foreign-backed “internal terrorism.”

President Assad made the comments during a Sunday meeting with the Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi, in Damascus, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

“Syria … is capable of facing up to any external aggression just as it faces up to internal aggression every day in the form of terrorist groups and those that support them,” Assad said.

The Syrian president further stressed that US threats will not discourage Damascus from commitment to its firm stance in fighting the foreign-sponsored terrorism gripping the country.

Syria will continue to record “one victory after another” until the full restoration of stability and security in the country, Assad noted.

The Syrian leader made the comments one day after US President Barack Obama said he has decided to launch a military attack against Syria for its alleged use of chemical weapons and seeks congressional consent for the move. US lawmakers will debate the issue upon returning from recess on September 9.

Earlier in the day, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad said Obama “was clearly hesitant, disappointed and confused when he spoke yesterday.”

The call for military action against the Arab state intensified after foreign-backed opposition forces accused the government of President Assad of launching a chemical attack on militant strongholds in the suburbs of Damascus on August 21.

Following the claims, the United States and a number of its allies were quick to engage in a major propaganda campaign to promote war against Syria despite the fact that Damascus has categorically rejected being behind the attack.
