The family of Carlos Alcis claims that the father of eight was frightened to death after police barged into his home.

A warrant is needed to enter a house unless police are in pursuit of a suspect committing a felony crime or in the case of serious danger such as a hostage situation.

The Brooklyn District Attorney will look into the incident as the family’s fight is getting support from Reverend Al Sharpton who demanded a full criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Carlo Alcis’s death, WABC reports.
“This case is one of the most horrific that I’ve heard of,” said Sharpton. “Over a cell phone you raid folks house and criminalize a family, and you’re a block and a half away from the hospital, and don’t even know how to deal with protecting someone that apparently needs medical attention.”
The distraught family has accused the NYPD of barging into their home early on Tuesday morning without a warrant, a privacy intrusion so frightening that, they believe, led to their father’s fatal heart attack.
Alcis collapsed and went into seizures shortly after the raid, the family said. It took paramedics 20 minutes to reach the house.
“What happened, what’s going on? Is that legal, to go in somebody’s house without a warrant?” Alcis’s brother Rudy Alcis told WABC.
“When we woke up there were flashlights in our faces. We saw 10 police officers in the basement,” said Imanuel Alcis, the victim’s son.
The NYPD say officers were searching for a suspect who had punched a woman in the face and stole her phone.

“Everyone in the apartment [is] sleeping. No idea how police gained entrance. No one gave permission to police to enter,” Sanford Rubenstein, the family’s attorney, told WABC.
