Chicago & the summer of violence

Greetings,

23122887_SSSadly but true, death and killing has become the norm, especially in the windy city. Both she & America are being ravaged by violence. There is constant mourning and hurt. You cannot look around a square block and not see someone who’s not been effected by the explosion in violent altercations and violence in general.

This explosion in violence and the skyrocketing death rate is all part of the chastisement. Sad to say, but because we refuse to hear and accept the word of God in the time of His presence, He is allowing that which the devil stored up in you, come out of you.

A 7-year-old boy shot carrying his bicycle was among the weekend’s shooting victims in Chicago where six people were killed and at least 30 more injured by gunfire between Friday evening and early Monday.

Relatives tell the Tribune Tyvion Jackson, 7, was walking up the steps of his home in the 4200 block of West 5th Avenue to put his bike away around 9 p.m. Sunday. When people gathered in the street started shooting at a nearby car, a stray bullet reportedly struck the boy in the side.

The shooting happened just outside Charles Sumner Math & Science Academy, where, as NBC Chicago notes, school starts up in a week. Residents told NBC the area is “the safest part of the neighborhood for [kids] to play.”

Jackson was taken to the hospital in serious-to-critical condition after the shooting, but soon improved and was released Monday morning. Family came from across the city to gather at the hospital, where family friend Angel Little, 33, told the Tribune, “Kids can’t be kids no more. It’s just a cold world out here.”

Meanwhile, six men ranging in age from 19 to 36 were killed in weekend shootings in Chicago.

The most recent fatal shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday night in Washington Heights where the Sun-Times reports two men, ages 27 and 28, were shot. The 27-year-old was shot in the head and died at the scene.

A 20-year-old man was the lone fatality from an incident in which several people shot in the 100 block of South Springfield Street at 4:35 a.m. Sunday.
