Syrian people have started to return to their homes in the border town of Harem, in the northern province of Idlib, after the army cleared the area of insurgents fighting against the government.

According to Syrian sources, fighting between armed groups and government forces ended in Haram on Wednesday and that security and stability returned to the town, bordering Turkey.

The Syrian army has also arrested a large number of foreign-backed insurgents in the suburbs of the western city of Hama.

Earlier, the army had regained control of more areas in Aleppo, including the Christian neighborhood of Jadideh, following fierce clashes with terrorist groups operating in the flashpoint city. At least 180 insurgents were killed in the confrontation.

The army launched a mop-up operation against the insurgents in Aleppo on August 8 and so far, several Aleppo districts, including insurgents’ stronghold of Salahuddin, Hanano, Seif Dawla and al-Bab, have been cleared of terrorist groups.

A large number of insurgents have also been killed, injured and arrested in Aleppo since the beginning of the operation.

Syria has been the scene of deadly unrest since mid-March, 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on August 1 that the country is engaged in a ”crucial and heroic” battle that will determine the destiny of the nation.
