Hamas official: Settlers are army reserve
LONDON, Sept. 4 (UPI) — A Hamas official, in an interview published Saturday, defended the killing of four Israelis on the West Bank, saying settlers are a “reserve military force.”
Ezzat al-Rashk told Al-Hayat, a London-based Arab-language newspaper, that attacks on “Zionists” are “natural,” Haaretz reported.
“Zionist settlers are the occupation’s first reserve military force,” he said. “They are now a real army in every sense of the word, with more than 500,000 automatic weapons at their disposal, on top of the basic protection” provided by the Israeli military.
Four people were killed Tuesday near Hebron when their vehicle was attacked. Two more were wounded the next day.
Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, told the newspaper the peace talks that began this week in Washington are bound to fail. He said Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is ready to give up 90 percent of Palestinian rights.
