Next time someone tells you we live in a post-racial world– after all, we have a black president– show them these stats.

The number of black men currently in the United States prison system is higher than the number of black men who were slaves in the South before the war.
There is a 32 percent chance that a black male will be in prison during his lifetime. For white males, the chance is 6 percent.
The rate of prison incarceration for black women is 2.5 times higher than the rate for white women.
2.2 million African Americans are barred from voting because of felony conviction. That means that 7.7 percent of black adults, compared to 1.8 percent of the non African American population, are disenfranchised.
In three states more than one in five African Americans is disenfranchised. (23% in Florida, 22 percent in Kentucky, 20 percent in Virginia.)
At the current rate, three in ten of the next generation of black men will be disenfranchised during their lifetime.
42 percent of prisoners on death row are African-American, even though African Americans only make up 12 percent of the U.S. population.
While black people constitute around 50 percent of murder victims each year, 80 percent of the victims in death penalty cases were white, and only 14 percent were Black.
African American prisoners who are ultimately exonerated serve an average of 12.68 years, compared to 9.4 years for white prisoners who are wrongfully convicted.
Of the over 18,000 executions that have taken place in this country’s history, only 42 involved a white person being punished for killing a Black person.
Prison sentences of black men are almost 20 percent longer than those of white men for similar crimes.
Black and white Americans use drugs at roughly the same rate, African Americans are arrested at over three times the rate.
In 2010, all black men were six times as likely as all white men to be incarcerated in federal, state and local jails,
