US, NATO trying to threaten and contain Russia for years: Joe Iosbaker
An American political commentator says the US is the aggressor in Ukraine and it is not Russia, adding that Washington and its European allies are threatening Moscow for years.
“The United States has provided $5 billion to the so-called democracy movement that led to the coup in Kiev last February,” Joe Iosbaker, a Leader in the United National Antiwar Committee, told Press TV on Saturday.
“It has been the United States and NATO that have been aggressive in Europe. For 20 years, NATO has taken more and more and more countries into the military alliance. They’re attempting to threaten and to contain Russia,” he added.
The Pentagon earlier this week threatened Russia with redeploying nuclear cruise missiles to Europe, accusing Moscow of violating two arms control treaties.
“We don’t have ground-launched cruise missiles in Europe now obviously because they’re prohibited by the treaty,” said Brian McKeon, principal deputy undersecretary for policy at the Department of Defense. “But that would obviously be one option to explore.”
The US accuses Russia of fueling the crisis in eastern Ukraine, which erupted when Kiev launched military operations in April to silence pro-Russia protests. However, the Kremlin rejects the accusation.
The analyst also noted that the US government is not a “peace-loving government” and it is a “war-making government.”
“The United States government has a pretense that the United States is the greatest democracy on earth and that the United States is defending against aggression by other countries,” Iosbaker said.
