     Russian air force to get 200 new jets

The Russian Air Force will significantly upgrade and reinforce its fleet during 2014, a high-ranking military officer said Tuesday.

“This year we’ll receive over 200 warplanes and helicopters,” Air Force commander Victor Bondarev told reporters during celebrations of the Air Force Day.

Bondarev, who participated in the celebrations of the 102nd anniversary of the Russian air force in the central Russian city of Lipetsk, added the Air Force had received more warplanes in the recent three years than they did in the previous 20 years.

The Air Force have been receiving SU-35S, SU-30M2, SU-34, MiG-29SMT, SU-30SM, IL-76MD-90A, AN-148-100, Yak-130 planes as well as Ka-52, Mi-28N, Mi-35M, Mi-8AMTSh, Mi-8MTV-5-1, Mi-26, Ka-226.80, Ansat-U helicopters.

Besides, 14 air force bases are being repaired and upgraded.

Earlier this month Russia started a week-long military drill involving more than 100 bombers and fighter jets for the first time in three military districts.
