” Alabama professor charged with murder

Bishop opened fire during a biology faculty meeting at the University of Alabama’s Huntsville campus on Friday, killing three people and injuring three others.

Amy Bishop, an assistant professor of biological sciences, was arrested Friday for killing three members of her own department identified as Gopi Podila, chairman of the biological sciences department, Maria Davis and Adriel Johnson, both associate professors of biology.

Bishop also wounded three more after she found out she had been denied academic tenure, which guarantees job security.

The Harvard University-trained professor could face the death penalty if convicted, officials said.

It is the second shooting in a week on a campus in the area. Last Friday, a 14-year-old student was shot dead in a middle school hallway in nearby Madison. A fellow student was allegedly behind the killing.
