Christmas weather WARNING: THREE 70mph storms to smash Britain in festive WASHOUT
THREE storms are set to hit the UK over Christmas with 70mph gales threatening a festive washout.

The Met Office is forecasting the first bout of gale-force gusts at up to 60mph to strike in Scotland on Friday night into Saturday.Blustery winds and washouts will hit England.
It is expected to be one of the busiest travel days.

A second storm will batter Britain around Boxing Day, with 70mph winds forecast by the Weather Outlook, and again before New Year’s Day.This Christmas is set to be the third in a row hit by storm chaos.
The 83mph Storm Barbara led to 15,000 power cuts and disrupted travel on December 23 and 24 last year.

Storm Eva’s 80mph winds caused Christmas Eve travel misery in 2015, with the army called in on Christmas Day as floods swamped the north.
Fog cloaked parts of the south and Midlands today – delaying traffic and planes.
If the Christmas storms develop into a warning it will be named Storm Dylan by the Met Office.

A Met Office forecaster said: “On Saturday, a band of rain may be heavy at times, with colder conditions following and showers may be wintry in the North and West.“Between Christmas and New Year, very unsettled conditions look likely to develop with gales at times and heavy rain.”
But Leon Brown, head of meteorological operations at The Weather Channel, warned Brits of festive gales.
