“Far worse than economic and social problems, the major threats to the survival of the human species are the threat of nuclear war and environmental catastrophe”.
Let’s take as first example the nuclear disaster in the reactor of Chernobyl in Ukraine 30 years ago. So far the worst accident in a nuclear power plant, but by no means the only one.
Since the accident, only 50 % of the nuclide Cesium 137 has disintegrated.
We have therefore to live many more years with this poison.
The other Nuclides in Reactor and in Fallout have medium lives of millions of years:
– The highly poisonous Plutonium 239 disintegrates in 24.110 years to Uranium 235.
– The enriched Uranium 235 in the reactor takes 700 million years to disintegrate.
– In seven billion years all the Uranium 235 in the reactor will have disappeared.
By then the Earth and Humanity will have ceased to exist a long time ago.
Let’s take as second example the first A-bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, a midget compared to today’s Hydrogen bombs. Even now, after 70 years, numerous after effects remain, such as leukemia, A-bomb cataracts, cancers of thyroid, breast, lung, and salivary glands, birth defects, including mental retardation, disfiguring keloid scars, sterility and psychosomatic disorder (source AtomicBombMuseum.org).
On 11 March 2011, Japan was hit by another nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant, the largest incident since Chernobyl and the second given the Level 7 event classification on the International Nuclear Event Scale. Out of the 300.000 evacuees, 174.000 are still unable to return to their homes in 2016, 1/3 live apart from their children, while 50% live away from other family members, causing them permanent stress with all related ailments. Every day 300 tons of contaminated water leak from the crippled plant and poison groundwater and the ocean.
Bare these facts in mind, when you think nuclear weapons and power plants are safe!
How can anybodies Conscience accept this Sword of Damocles above our heads?
According to Anonymous, “The planet Earth is being contaminated with poisonous radioactive elements. And as a result, the DNA of the living beings with deteriorating, accelerating the extinction of the species and the planet, including us. Hundreds of millions of us will have to die of cancers and diseases caused by the exposition to radiation. ”
Step-by-step instructions on how to plant over 125 plants inside your permaculture garden. Plus, special instructions on choosing the right ones for your climate. From Arizona to Alaska, you can do this anywhere…
How to “marry” your plants. We’re gonna tell you which grow well together and help each-other survive and thrive, so they don’t ever compete for sunlight and nutrients. You get the full table of plants that work well with one another as well as the ones you should NEVER be put together.
Public health and return of evacuees
Permanent return remains a high priority, and the evacuation zone is being decontaminated where required and possible, so that evacuees (81,000 from this accident according to METI) can return without undue delay. There are many cases of evacuation stress including transfer trauma among evacuees, and once the situation had stabilised at the plant these outweighed the radiological hazards of returning, with over 1000 deaths reported (see below). There were also 267,000 tsunami survivor refugees remaining displaced in February 2014.In December 2011 the government said that where annual radiation dose would be below 20 mSv/yr, the government would help residents return home as soon as possible and assist local municipalities with decontamination and repair of infrastructure. In areas where radiation levels are over 20 mSv/yr evacuees will be asked to continue living elsewhere for “a few years” until the government completes decontamination and recovery work. The government said it would consider purchasing land and houses from residents of these areas if the evacuees wish to sell them.In November 2013 the NRA decided to change the way radiation exposure was estimated. Instead of airborne surveys being the basis, personal dosimeters would be used, giving very much more accurate figures, often much less than airborne estimates. The same criteria would be used, as above, with 20 mSv/yr being the threshold of concern to authorities. In February 2014 the results of a study were published showing that 458 residents of two study areas 20 to 30 km from the plant and a third one 50 km northwest received radiation doses from the contaminated ground similar to the country’s natural background levels. Measurement was by personal dosimeters over August-September 2012……..More Here
