Pakistan says its army has successfully launched a short-range ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The military said on Tuesday that the Hatf IX, with a range of 60 kilometers (37 miles), can carry conventional warheads, too.
“This quick response system addresses the need to deter evolving threats, specially at shorter ranges,” it added in a statement.
Pakistan has test fired three ballistic missiles since India launched its new long-range Agni V last month.
The Indian missile has a range of more than 5,000 km (3,100 miles) and is capable of hitting anywhere in regional military rival China, analysts say.
India and Pakistan have routinely carried out missile tests since both demonstrated their nuclear weapons capability in 1998. The two neighbors have engaged in an arms race since the partition of Pakistan from India in 1947.
