Turkey: Tehran declaration still valid

GREETINGS,

Turkey: Tehran declaration still valid

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says despite the UN Security Council resolution against Iran, the Tehran nuclear fuel swap declaration is still valid.

“According to the agreements, a meeting will be held to discuss this issue in September, but the date of the meeting might change,” CNN Turk quoted Davutoglu as saying.

Turkish foreign minister added that all parties involved want the presence of Turkey in the negotiations under any circumstances.

Under the May 17 deal brokered by Brazil and Turkey, Iran agreed to send 1,200 kg of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for fuel for the medical research reactor in Tehran.

The US and its European allies snubbed the declaration and used their influence on the UN Security Council to impose a fourth round of sanctions against Iran.

Both Ankara and Brasilia condemned the new sanctions, saying it was a major setback for progress on resolving the standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.

The Islamic Republic has announced that the Tehran declaration would form the framework of any future nuclear talks.
