Gambia Seizes 2Tons Of Cocaine Worth $1 Billion

Greetings,

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MIND BOGGLING. THEY SEIZED COCAINE WORTH ENOUGH TO RUN A SMALL COUNTRY.

Crime Beat – A cocaine seizure by authorities is estimated at a stunning $1 billion by security services in the Gambia. With the help of British investigators, authorities also seized large quantities of cash and arms with the massive discovery.

Investigators reveal it was at least “two tonnes of cocaine.”  BBC Africa reports: “Agents from the UK’s Serious Organized Crime Agency – the rough equivalent of the US FBI – helped discover the contraband.”

An official in Gambia’s drug enforcement agency says the West African nation has seized nearly two tonnes of cocaine.

The fragile states along Africa’s west coast have become major trafficking hubs for drugs, especially cocaine, on their way from Latin American coca fields to the European market.

An official with Gambia’s National Drug Enforcement Agency said the haul was seized on Tuesday on the outskirts of the capital of Banjul.

The agency has come under scrutiny after its former director was arrested for drug trafficking. It is now under direct control of the country’s president.
